Hello! Welcome to the National Menopause Foundation website. We created this community to be a place for women to gain knowledge, be inspired, connect with others, and ultimately, feel as prepared as possible for the changes that come with perimenopause, menopause and postmenopause.
Before launching the Foundation, we asked women to share their opinions about and experiences with menopause. We found that, in general, the majority of women feel neutral about menopause. Ninety-five percent said they had experienced some symptom of menopause, with night sweats (64%) and hot flashes (58%) being the most common. Unfortunately, 64 percent said the symptoms they experienced had interfered with their quality of life. Sixty percent said they were worried about aging. Another 60 percent said they’d be interested in an online, peer-to-peer community where they could discuss menopause with other women.
Approximately 1.3 million women enter menopause each year in the U.S. And it is estimated that with women’s current average life expectancy, we will spend one-third of our lives postmenopausal. Those figures are a call to action that we need to change the status quo, and pay more attention to women in this stage of life. We should have more options for treating the symptoms of menopause. We should know more about the transformation happening to our bodies and our health and what we need to do to continue to age healthfully. We should not be embarrassed about the symptoms we experience or fear being discriminated against in the workplace because of them.
To make this happen, we need major changes in our healthcare system, our workplaces and our mindsets. The National Menopause Foundation will be the catalyst for this change. Please join us!
Within this website we hope you’ll find what you need to make your journey through menopause easier, less intimidating and maybe even inspirational.
Thank you for being here. I hope you’ll return often and share with us how we can better meet your needs.
